There is something classic and elegant about including
a monochromatic colour scheme into your outfit. The “50 shades of beige” trend
is huge for Spring/Summer 2019 fashion and includes lots of soft muted colours
including off white, cream, taupe and caramel tones. We see Designers like Chloe
and Burberry showcasing this trend on the catwalk! So safe to say we will all
be wearing these desert shades if we want to dress designer-esque and look
effortlessly put together!
A classic hue in your outfit will always be timeless –
it is so chic and rich. Lots of celebrities like Holly Willoughby, Kourtney
Kardashian and Hailey Bieber are jumping on this trend and looking stunning doing
it!
Simple styles do not have to be boring – you can always add a statement coat to make your outfit stand out! Why not take some style inspo from Hailey Bieber in her beautiful check coat!

1. A Coat
Why not add a classic coat to your collection! A good
coat is a staple piece that gives that finishing touch to your outfit. Chose a
long line or midi length for a sophisticated look or a long line over-sized
blazer for a more relaxed look. Never underestimate the effect of good outerwear!
I adore the camel tone and tortoise shell buttons of this androgynous style
coat from Zara. I chose mine in a size small as I dont like it to look too big and bear in mind that it is an over sized fit! Head over to my Instagram @thestyleflamingos to see me wearing this with
lots of different outfits!
Coat - Zara
Boots - River Island
Jumper - Dunnes Stores from Savida range
Skirt is a charity shop find
You could also opt for a classic mac or short wool
coat – chose something that will fit practically in your wardrobe. A good coat
is something that you can have for years!
2. Handbags
You could add neutral or beige tones into your
accessories like your handbag. A nude handbag is so chic and will go with
absolutely everything. So even if you go for a designer piece by choosing a
timeless colour you will definitely get your price per wear - well this is how I
will justify it in my head anyway lol! J
This designer inspired nude bag from Boohoo is a nice affordable cross body
option.
So here I have styled a beige polo from Dunnes Stores with a Tesco F & F skirt check skirt
bringing a hint of greens and browns into the outfit, I then kept my shoes and
handbag muted by selecting nude tones. I have had this cream Jasper Conran coat
for years and every winter I pull it out. I think when we choose a simple style
and basic shades we will re wear it so much – so actually investing in some
good coats and bags can make for excellent wardrobe decisions!
Boots are my nude River Island ones again!
Handbag is Marc Jacobs from Brown Thomas
3. Knitwear
I for one love cosy knitwear in winter and when I
found this beautiful bobble knit I was sold. Head over to my Instagram to find
out where this one is from – love that it’s so affordable! Style with a tan
leather skirt or cream skinny jeans and you are right on trend! Having neutral
basics means that your pieces are versatile so you can add a pair of skinny
jeans, a pair of chinos, a mini or midi skirt and you have a number of
different looks with one piece!
Add some gold or
rose gold tones into your jewellery to give that extra dimension to your
outfit! My gold earrings styled here are only €3 from Penneys!
4. Footwear
4. Footwear
Neutral shades of footwear are just fantastic to have
in your wardrobe. Like who doesn’t own black shoes or boots? So perhaps beige
is the new black?! We all want to add some beige or nude footwear to our
collection. As you all know a nude court shoe will not only elongate your legs
but gives the illusion of slimmer legs too. It’s the colour and style that do
all the talking!
I love these nude boots I bought before Christmas and
I am wearing them a lot with blue skinny jeans and all of my skirts. Opt for
neutral tones to get more wear out of all of your pieces.
5. A Statement Skirt
To make an outfit pop while wearing a monochromatic
palette you could always add a statement print skirt. Maybe opt for animal
print as suggested in last week’s article ‘How to Wear Animal Print’ or
something like this Versace inspired print! As everything else is muted it
allows the skirt to really stand out!
Skirt is Zara
There are so many fab midi skirts in stores now so there
are many options I will post some over on my Instagram later today! Check out a beautiful River Island one I posted on my Insta stories today! Don't worry if you missed it check out my '50 Shades of Beige' highlights.
You will probably notice that in most of my
photographs I am wearing the same boots, so you can wear one item in endless
ways!
When you are shopping just ask yourself, how many different ways can I
wear this?! – If the answer is only in limited ways then think about why you
are buying it!
Change the way you think of your items – styling them
up and down can be so much fun! So this week I ask you to wear one item that
you own, at least twice, but in two different ways - you will enjoy getting
creative and utilising your wardrobe in the best possible way!
Neutral tones and basic items are the best things to
start building a capsule wardrobe!

Hope you all have a fab week!
